Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The Naval Historical Center has a lesson plan for Pearl Harbor Day. It includes a copy of FDR's speech to the American people.

I just thought I'd share...

Cool... I'd also add that talking to grandparents/great grandparents/ relatives who were around then is a fun thing to do too. Let them pretend to be reporters

Last year at the Honolulu Theater for Youth (HTY), we saw a play called Nothing is the Same by Y York. She wrote it based on interviews with people who were children in Waihiawa (outside Schofield Barracks)at the time of the attack.

The play has 4 characters, all 10-12 age range, and deals with the issues that affected the kids at that time including race, economics, and fear of more attacks. It is in pidgin, but my kids (5 and under at the time) understood it easily.

I think I have one script if someone would like me to dig it up and mail it to you. Or if you're interested you might try contacting HTY for more scripts.

I saw that it was performed in Seattle recently so if you see it in your area, I would definitely go.
