Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for an acnient/world history text for my 6th grader who knows quite a bit of history -- just because I think he would be interested, and it would be good to provide him with some sort of chronological framework, to fill in the gaps in our approach, etc. I don't want to make him answer comprehension questions, etc; I just want something for him to read and us to talk about.

It looks like there are three main Catholic textbooks that I can find:

All Ye Lands
Christ the King, Lord of History
The Old World's Gifts to the New

(FYI, I'm interested in a balanced view of history -- I don't want the typical Protestant bias against Catholics, but neither do I want the reverse, if you know what I mean.)

Hi Angela,
A book I have used along with our Tapestry of Grace studies this year AND which I have LOVED is called
Our Pioneers and Patriots. Unlike the Anne Carroll books, which I do find very one sided, this books seems to give a more balanced and very readable account. Also, since it's not really a text book, I have found it more interesting. I use it to read aloud to my crew.

There were parts of Christ the King Lord of History that I loved, but a lot of it was just really dull!

If you get the teacher's book to go with All Ye Lands- they have some great reading selections and movies that your son might enjoy.
