Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Okay, I have bought the boxes for five continents. Now, what goes in? I have a Hand of a Child unit for three continents. I will make the flapbook and keep that in there. I have Asia, Europe, Africa, South America and North America boxes so far. All empty!

One idea I had was to print out passport-type badges/patches to put on the outside of the boxes. Where would I find these? A Yahoo search has yielded nothing.
Help!!

In Christ,

There are several threads about this here on 4Real if you search under continent boxes.

Start with this one. It has a lot of ideas!

Leocea - Just wanted to add that we only focus on one continent a year. Last year, we were focusing on North America. I have the continent boxes set up, and if we came across something in our studies that was appropriate we'd put it in the appropriate continent box, but we used them sort of like timelines. You know how in history you're mainly studying one period at a time, so most of your entries are in that time period, but occasionally you'll be off on a rabbit trail and need to add a date somewhere else. So, I like having the 7 continent boxes available, but this year we're really focusing on Africa. I think Meredith put some neat stuff on her boxes - lemme see if I can find her link...ahhh...here 'tis.

Anyway, hope that helps. We've loved having them as a supplement to our learning. The kids love adding things to them.

You can put anything you want, since continent boxes are something we just sort of made up and brainstormed here. My idea was just to have something tangible to represent each continent, so the children's experience of a place would not be entirely through pictures, but also something more hands-on. Most of the items in our boxes have been gathered from around the house (like pearls and Jade, tea and chopsticks in Asia), but I keep an eye out at yard sales and thrift shops for little things. Last week I found some neat carved wooden African animals for our Africa box. When we traveled through Canada we collected a set of Canadian coins for the NA box, and a friend sent us some stuff from Belgium and postcards from France.I also have our world landmark cards, homes around the world cards, and my Mothers and babies around the world cards in there.I am also working on getting spices/teas from each continent in there so there will be that additional sensory component.

Here is a picture that shows (among other things) the contents of our Asia box when dd was playing store with it:

Just use your imagination and go nuts with it! (which reminds me, I need to get some Brazil nuts for our SA box...)

Any luck in finding/making your passports?
