Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just got back from the Smithsonian's Folklike Festival which hosted a group from Bhutan ... and you can certainly learn tons about them visiting the fair. BUT, you also get a great intro to this itty-bitty country from Smithsonian's writeup on Bhutan or go to the travel site, Bhutan Karma Tours and Treks for background info.

What's pretty cool about this country is that until the 1960s, there were NO ROADS into/out of Bhutan and air travel just started a few years ago! These folks are isolated! They are a Buddhist country and the Buddhism permeates their whole culture. But their crafts are amazing! Textiles, wood-work, painting and other crafts are gorgeous ....

A very cool country that sits between China and India ...

We are hoping they have good Texas food. Did you happen to notice? And what about the NASA stuff? We have rocket lovers here. Is it good?

Sound very cool, Mary. When we were in DC last summer we stumbled upon the Folklife Festival. We did some very cool colonial Virginia activities. I had no idea it would be there or that it was an annual event. When my family lived in NOVA for a few years in the late 70's my parents never had any idea about it, I don't think.

It's the 42nd "annual", whatever that means!

Leah -- the Texas barbq smelled great and we would have done more of that but the kids were wilting in the humidity (and almost 80 degrees on the Mall). The NASA stuff looked very cool -- it's the 50th anniversary of NASA so they've pulled out all the stops.

The festival runs thru the weekend, and then again next weekend (starting on Wed) so you've got lots of time to go.

It's a great idea for a festival -- one country, one state and a big anniversary of a gov't agency. Next year the country will be Wales so lots of fiber stuff -- yippppppppeee!

When I was over in India I had wanted to travel to Bhutan. But visas and flights were very hard to come by. It is an intriguing place though.
