I am not sure where to put this, but my Girl Scout Brownie troop has demonstrated an intense interest in learning languages. They would love to know how to say some basic things in various ways.

I am at a loss as to how to even start this. One girl taught us some sign language. Everyone was captivated. They know how to say thank you in Spanish, Russian and Korean. I can tell they want more, but I don't really know how to proceed.

Any of you creative ladies have any ideas?

Songs are a really great way... See if you can find nursery rhymes in other languages (Momes is good for French, there is one that has a number of languages... but I can't recall off-hand... I'll try to find it).

Enchanted learningEnchanted Learning has a lot of resourches in different languages. Definately worth checking out. Maybe pick a couple of languages (perhaps ones that are community languages in your area), and then pick a topic (greetings, setting the table, games, animals, body parts) and work through it for each of those languages.

Travlang can send you a new word each day in whatever languages you select (I think there are 40-50 options).

But really, I think I'd be going the song route if it were me (actually. I am with my 3 yo... our latin songs are on my blog... and I intend to add the french ones Real Soon Now:-) )

I agree! They LOVE songs. Problem is, I can't read music, so I'd have to hear it sung through a few times before I could teach it.

That's one of the things I'm enjoying about the Latin nursery rhymes... I already know the tune:-)

And the first one I found on Momes was to the tune of Frere Jacques:-)

The other site I was talking about is this. I've linked to the english page, but choose your alternate language. It can be a bit confusing... because each language is somewhat independent (as in, the name of the song is only written in that language), but if you click on 'english' underneath the song, it will take to you to the english translation. Of course, if it doesn't list a translation, that can be difficult!

Then there's also the difficulty of pronunciation:-)
