Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dc are interested in geography and mapping skills and yet I really lack resources and more importantly confidence in this area (not too sure why)

I purchased Cindy Wiggers, Ultimate Guide to Geography, it is a good book, dh really likes it. But the truth is I am tired, I am at the point of just wanting something that teaches without me having to do too much prep. I want them to be able to do a 'geography bee' type quiz and have a reasonable chance of answering some questions.

I particularly want something for my 8th grader who is keen to learn more in this area. It would of course be great if I could use said resource with the younger ones also.

Of course I want said book to be interesting, not dry Am I being too difficult? Do you have any suggestions?

Well, this year we will be using the Trail Guide to US Geography (I know is a Trail Guide to World Geography as well). It looks good, like what you are describing. However, since we haven't actually tested it yet I can't really recommend it. But, I can tell you what it looks like:

Each day there are two questions for the kids to look up in an atlas. They are quickies, but keep the subject and methods in front of them. Once a week there is a more in depth, extensive mapping and optional activity (ies). THe book is written for 3 levels which cover (I think about 3rd grade to 12th).

This book is really heavy on the mapping/facts, so I plan to use it with both picture and chapter books to get a more human feel for the location.

I have just had an interesting resource brought to my attention by a friend, World Physcial Geography published by GeoMatters, it is for the older child 6th-highschool. Is anyone familiar with it?
