My oldest dd is going into the 7th grade, and for history this year I'd really like to 'break the cycle' of American history, World history, American history etc. by teaching American Government.
The Catholic Textbook Project has a text planned for AG but it's still in production. Does anyone know of another resource for a junior high AG course? Catholic or Christian would be my preference but secular would be o.k. provided it stuck to the foundation of our government, the Constitution, the branches of government and how they function etc.
Thanks!

I'd like to renew this thread. My son is studying for the CLEP test and I see that the CLEP test for history has A LOT of government questions that we haven't covered yet!
So I was wondering, any of you with older students, what have you used to teach government? Thanks!

Hmmm. My dh is a government teacher here in California, and that is usually a 12th grade class. I'm thinking that even though you may not be able to find a textbook for junior high, hopefully someone will have some other book suggestions. I'll talk to my dh, and see if he has any ideas for you. If he does, I'll let you know.

I am interested in this as well. My soon to be 7th grader is very interested in the elections, I think these would dovetail beautifully.

I'm very interested, too. We are just going to do math and American History and Government this summer with lots of living book reading...should be fun. I am starting to plan and will post anything I find...I agree, Molly, it is perfect timing to study with the elections coming up in November...

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I've been thinking that Declaration Statesmanship looks very interesting. Is there anyone here who has used it?

Amanda Bennett has a unit study that we used a couple of years ago when Jackson was in 7th grade. There are daily lesson plans written on two levels...one for elementary and one for upper grades. It says it's a 4 week study, but we really went in depth and took a semester to complete it. I think it was well worth the $14.95.

I'm using it this year with an 11th grader, in preparation for MODG's Advanced Gov't next year.
It's a difficult text, definitely not for middle school, imo.

Here's a neat site that has been helpful to our government studies... Ben's Guide to U.S. Government
Just look at the kite, and click on the level(s) you need, as there are four different levels there.
And another one is Mr. Donn's American Government:
