Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, I am probably really revealing my total incompetence, but does anyone know what this is. My dd RC History unit has this as part of the words to define. I think it might have something to do with Greek city states but we've not come up with anything in our search so far. Anyone know off the top of their head - or because they've already done RC History.

Also, I know there is an on-line users group for RC-History but when I tried to join, I could never get anything to work, so anyone succussfully done that who would be willing to walk me through it?
Edited to say:

OK - I found the answer to this question for anyone who happened to peruse and wonder. I misread the sheet (my vision problems plaguing me again) and wrote it incorrectly on my dd assignment sheet. The word was laconic - and we know that meaning . I was really driving myself nuts thinking ionic but went back to the original source and still read it incorrectly as Iaconic - surely couldn't have been that bad of a typo . Please pray that my new eye appointment in August will help correct these vision things. So now my main question is how to get onto the discussion group. It is a Yahoo group and I've never ever done this because I've never ever been able to figure it out.

Thanks,

Janet

Well, I had never heard of the word and couldn't find it in any dictionary, but I did find this lesson plan that states (a little more than half way down the page): "Iaconic means using new words."

Ok -- well, I'm as blind as you are, Janet! I read and reread your post several times and still didn't see the difference between your first word (the one whose meaning you know) and the incorrect word "Iaconic."

*Now* I see the lowercase "L."      It didn't help that "Ionic" was all over the web and must mean *something* related to history (from context it seems that way), but I have no idea what it might mean. Anyway, glad ya'll figured it out!

Ionic is a type of architectural style from Greeks - after Doric columns. Well at least I'm not the only one who didn't notice the difference in I and l.

Laconic means saying a lot in few words - in the style of the Spartans. It may also mean brief, pithy, brusque. Evidently the Spartans were also called Laconians. Found this off an encarta dictionary, thought it was iaconic until we saw the word capitalized.

So now hopefully everyone else is spared our wild goose chase!

Ok... Now I'm doubting my typing skills *as well as* my vision! I *meant* that "Iaconic" was all over the web and must mean something related to history!       Maybe I just need more coffee.
