Of the Middle Ages? I would like to do a study next year of the Middle Ages. I have some books ideas for the kids to read but I would like a "spine book" to use also. So how about it, thumbs up or down on this one?
Any other ideas would be great also, I will be doing this with 6th,8th,9th graders.
Thanks and God bless,

I don't have the Middle ages one however I have used Famous Men of Greece and of Rome and love them. More importantly so do the dc
Normally I am wary of any non-Catholic middle ages books however the list of who is covered in the Middle Ages sounds quite good. Can't find my book at present I'll list if you need me too when I can find where on the bookshelves it is.

Jackie, I'm just working off of distant memory here, but I seem to recall that Famous Men of the MIddle Ages wasn't too bad---not as good as FM of Greece and Rome, but much better than FM of the Renaissance (which is horrible, IMHO). I seem to recall being a little miffed over a few things in FM of the Middle Ages, but on the whole found it informative enough to warrent its use.
Just my vague 2 cents worth!

Jackie, you may know this already, but it is available on The Baldwin Project. I've been there all morning trying to narrow down our Middle Ages options.

Although I've used Famous Men of Rome I don't own my own copy. I'm about to order one and I have the choice between a Dover Publication and a yesterday's classicedition. Obviously Dover is less half the price, does anyone know if there would be a difference?
Btw, I do have a Yesterday's Classic publ. (my Greece one) and was impressed with their binding and print size and layout.

There is about an 80 page difference between these two versions, with the Dover edition having less pages. I'm guessing that might be related to the print size/layout.
The YC books seem to have the same type of layout w/ a decent amount of "white space" per page. I personally like that (I have two books from them), and I think my oldest daughter does too, since it isn't as overwhelming to the mind as a page that is *packed* with words with little white space.
BTW, my Famous Men... books are all either Greenleaf or Memoria Press editions that I bought used, so I'm going solely by what I found at the websites of the two publishers mentioned above.

Thank you so much for replying and so timely. I had just received a Dover edition and wasn't drawn to it and unusually it was damaged. The company is great and were going to replace it, I just emailed them and asked them to upgrade to the Yesterday's Classic version. I know I love the Greece one.
