Dd will be doing CHC's 4th grade history/geography this summer. I would love to supplement it with living books. The program is divided into U.S. regions(SW,SE,NE,NW,midwest) beginning with an intensive study of the child's own state(Nebraska for us ).
I would greatly appreciate any ideas!
Thankyou!
Christy

Someone was working on compiling a listing of books that coordinated with the different states. I think it might have been Love2Learn. Does anyone remember?
Also, Ami and Celia at Homeschool Share have a list of picturebooks that go with some of states - see geography section here.

I know, isn't she amazing?! I can't count how many times MaryM has come to my rescue with the perfect resource at the perfect time. I'll bet that she doesn't even know she is such a blessing!

Lois Lenski did several books (a long time ago) that centered on peoples' lives in different regions of the US. Strawberry Girl (which is pretty well known and still readily available) is one of them. I found Boom-Town Boy at a used book sale. This was written in 1948 and is about life in an Oklahoma oil *boom town*. I don't know the titles of the other books, but I'm guessing they are on the internet somewhere.
Peace,
Nancy

"Bayou Suzette" is another Lenski book, about Cajuns in Louisiana.

There is a listing of all the books in the Lenski American Regional Series books here. They start about halfway down on the list.
