I have finally put all my children over to the MUS, I had my youngest school child on it late last year and found myself in a position to swap the two older children over with far less expense than anticipated when acquiring recently, a secondhand copy of Teachers, Student Text and Videos of Intermediate - I paid a mere $20. This find was an answer to my frantic prayers at the time!
I will put the two older children onto Epsilon after this, but at least they get a crash course in MUS 'thinking' with the texts that would normally come under Epsilon with the old Intermediate. The MUS seller in Aus said to leave the fractions in Intermediate as it would be covered in depth in Epsilon.
I'm loving it, the children are loving it, I am loving the schooling like never before and it has made me realise that the Maths was a subconscience thorn in my side for so long, colouring my outlook on everything! 
Is this a honeymoon period?  (We had come previously and predominately from Rod and Staff) Or are we just finally at 'home' with finding the maths of our dreams? 
I am just so happy!

My girls both just finished the books they were in(Epsilon and Beta). This was our first year with MUS after switching over from Saxon(which my older kids loved). We are loving MUS!!! My older dd is proud that she just started Zeta and looks forward to pre-algebra, and my youngest dd can't wait for her Gamma to show up in the mail. We will be sticking with this program all the way through high school.

We love math u see as well. Math has never been a struggle for me, but it certainly is for my oldest. I love that he can *see* math with MUS and that it teaches *why* things work instead of just handing you a formula. I think that this is especially important for those that aren't naturally inclined towards math like my oldest.

Hope no one minds if I resurrect this thread to ask a question. I used MUS epsilon when my oldest was in 6th grade, just coming out of ps and not knowing a lot of his fractions, etc. It was great but we zoomed through it quickly then went to the Key To series and eventually ended up with TEaching Textbooks, which we have used for the last 2 yrs and he prefers. I'm very happy with TT for him, but it does not start lower than I think 5th or 6th grade currently. I've been using Miquon for my 6 and 8 yos. It works great for my 8 yo who is very mathematically inclined. My 6 yo dd, though, just really struggles with what seems to be very simple concepts! I thought Miquon would be good since it's so hands-on but what throws her off is the fact that they start right off with things like 3+5=blank, which she can do, and then blank + 5 = 8, which completely sends her into tears, b/c she just doesn't see the relationships. Miquon uses a LOT of this -each page might only have 4-5 new problems, but each one is shown in several conformations and she can't do them. She's actually up to subtraction now and things like blank - 12=4 are impossible, yet she can easily do 16-12= blank. The other day the number line was introduced, for doing subtraction, and she absolutely could not see the relationship until we took 2 days off and just played games on it, moving x number spaces, etc. She finally "got" it. Next day, it was all greek again to her. She is very smart otherwise, very verbal and does well in reading/phonics, etc. I always loved math so this is all new to me!
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I have been wondering about Math U see for this age. I already have the basic set of manipulatives since we used for the older one so the cost wouldn't be too bad. I'm just wondering if MUS will be that different for her, or if someone has a suggestion on teaching this dd. One thing to mention is that she is one who is constantly singing during all her work - something that is auditory would be great for her I guess. thanks

Of course you're happy after Rod and Staff, anybody would. Sorry if I offend anyone but I loathe R&S, mum used it when she hsed and I vowed and declared I never would.

You know, I've always wondered about MUS, but it looks COMPLETELY complicated! Like something I could never, ever wrap my brain around.
Is there a dummy's guide to MUS?

Math U See is so not complicated once you realize it is probably not how you learned math as a kid. Once you have come to terms with that, and gotten in the groove (no big intro. manuel to read- or I would have never picked it up  ) it is so easygoing and is very easy on mom's time.
My kids (three have used MUS) have me or Steve (the mus guy on the dvds) teach the lesson and then from 3-6 days (or more) they do pages associated with the lesson and also systematic review pages. The big treat here is that I don't have to be by them each day and for my real independent types they can go it alone most of the time. Also, the way the new one is designed, you can just use however many pages your child needs for that lesson. That was a big plus here for my math phobic and math all star.

Yes! I am so excited about this program. I have a math phobic daughter who is really excited about math. Thanks, Anne, for posting this. It helped me to look further into this program...We are thrilled:)

Such a good fit for DD#2--math phobic and very visual/spatial.
DD#3 is in the same program--habit and comfort for me but it is again a good fit.
I like learning new things myself. The approach is different but makes sense when you give up, "I learned it this way." Sometimes MUS's multistep problems reduce the chance for error.
We sometimes do not do all the worksheets but we do all the word problems and most of the last 3 worksheets.

Another family that loves math u see!
My daughters just completed Beta (2nd grader) and Gamma/Epsilon (4th grader--she did two books, starting about half way though each since she had already learned some simple multiplication and division).
The only thing I haven't been able to learn is multiplying upside down to check division. I just have her multiply the regualar way (the way I learned it).
