Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I found a great (and fairly recent) real-literature picture book series at the library covering math concepts for elementary age children. The books are on three levels: Level 1 for ages 3+, Level 2 for ages 6+, and Level 3 for 7+. The author, Stuart J. Murphy, presents children's programs around the country to promote math. I looked for more info from the publisher, and found a website which lists the concepts and themes covered:

http://www.harperchildrens.com/hch/mathstart/murphy.asp

The goals of the MathStart books are:
"*become more fluent in the language of mathematics
*develop reading and language art skills such as *comprehension and critical thinking
*learn basic math concepts
*make math part of their system of communication
*realize that math is all around them "

My children have enjoyed several of the titles from the library, and I notice bookclosouts.com has some titles as well. A fun way to do math with the littles while cuddling on the couch! (Without having to hunt through the entire picture-book section of the library... All under E/MURPHY)
