Do any of you have experience with a multi-sensory math program? My 8 yo dd is way behind in math (she can't get past +2 addition facts). We have tried some Montessori, Math-U-See and Saxon. In paying closer attention I understood dd to be a kinesthetic learner. Recently she was tested and sure enough she is a grade behind. The "professional" recommended Touch Math (www.touchmath.com) which I have never heard of. Before I order, I hope to reap the experience of the families here.

Victoria, I don't have any experience with Touch Math but I know that many books suggest add ons to standard curricula, to make it more hands on.

I'm bumping this up because it's been recommended to me also. But the price is prohibitive ! Am I missing something? Are there home school prices as opposed to these big budget schoool prices?

At the last homeschool conference, I checked out Shiller Math which claims to be a Montessori program and claims to be multisensory.

Anyone have experience with this program? I have most of the manipulatives they sell for the first few levels, so I just book the activity book for my first grader and that wasn't too expensive ($30.00). But the KIT for the older kids is $250.00+.

We are using Right Start Math. Here is the website. Their main manipulative is the Abacus. They teach mental math so they discourage the use of fingers when counting. It's very good and we love it! Check it out!

What i really recommend is you go to the presentation section and listen/read the presentation. VERY informative!! It's under Research/Downloads.

We use Shiller Kit 1 with 8 year old ds and we are really enjoying it! It is supposed to go through 3 years but most parents find the program lasts about 2. So, divide your cost out by that.
You can save a few $$ by not getting the downloads(I think it was $50) and I believe they have a summer special now, last time I was at the site they had some $$ off special. Check it out.
I found the downloads nice so I didn't have to go to the library and make copies but to save money next kit I may skip them.

Oh, and Margot. If you don't have the CD for Shiller you are missing a lot of fun. My kids love the lessons that have the music!
I find it VERY multisensory and ds enjoys that there is very little writing.
