So what living math tools do your kids most love? Do they enjoy reading or playing with manipulatives or games? Do they enjoy helping balance the checkbook, cook, or figure out how much mulch you need in the spring?

We got tons of mileage out of homemade manipulatives when the kids were younger. More math literature as they've gotten older.

I love manipulatives as they are so simple, easy to use, and make sense to most kids.

Real life is also a favorite of mine!

Games - card and dice seemed to be the most popular here over the years.

We've always enjoyed games, too.

We've used a little bit of everything over the years and enjoyed all. These polls are reminding and encouraging me to be more purposeful and fun with our learning.

I love math picture books as well as books like Life of Fred, Cool Math, and Mathematicians are People, too.

Games are a close second!

I've used pretty much everything to help my DD this year. Manipulatives, dice, games, cooking, sewing, books - whatever I can get my hands on if I think it will help!

I love manipulatives, but I cast my vote for games because that's what my kids love the most. Math war is played almost daily here and chess, Othello, Rush Hour, math bingo, all kinds of other games are in high demand too.

One game we have used with every child and loved is Presto Change-o. It's fun, relatively short, and gives great practice in identifying coin values, adding and subtracting money, and making change. The kids liked it so much that they would even play it on their own without prompting!

Well, I said "Life" I haven't found anything that helps the kids grasp fractions and the idea of multiplication better than making stuff in the kitchen. My oldest didn't even know that doubling and tripling recipes was multiplying (not having older kids the term didn't manage to come up) when she started multiplication. Nice thing was she'd already been doing it so as soon as she realized that multiplication and doubling were the same, it gave her confidence a big boost.

I voted for all of the above, but really I wanted to vote for Games and Puzzles.

Lately our favorites for math are card games. For logic: scramble squares, sudoku, Mastermind, Railroad Rush Hour, and chess.
