Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, Seastar's post on Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land triggered memories of other fun, remotely educational videos that we've enjoyed here over the years.

One my kids still enjoy (and it's very short...9 minutes)
is Little Toot. This 1948 Disney cartoon classic features music sung by the Andrews Sisters and a story about responsibility and redemption.

The Ant and the Grasshopper is another Disney "Silly Symphony" featuring classic animation and symphonic music.

What are your favorites?

ETA: Probably you all are familiar with Fantasia (this is a very expensive version just so you can read the reviews, I'd look for it in the library). Disney artists created animated scenes based on classical music selections. It is not a story, but a series of musical vignettes. Please be aware that one scene contains pagan (Greek) creatures. Also, the second-to-the-last scene might be very frightening for younger viewers. The score is "Night on Bald Mountain" and the animated sequence shows a large demon looming above Bald Mountain. But, since this was made in an age of greater faith, the LAST scene depicts monks singing the "Ave Maria" while the demon retreats before the power and beauty of their song. This is a full length video; some sections are available on youtube as well.

I really like The Pagemaster with Macaulay Culkin for study of literature and its genres.
