Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We use Mathusee with dd7. We obviously took too long off over the summer .   She had more of a grip on her math facts in the spring.

Can someone share with me how you teach your children math facts?

We are pretty new to hs. I feel like it is my fault that she is having difficulty with this.

Any direction on this would be most appreciated.

peace,
amy

My new plan for this year is to spend 3-4 days per week 15 minutes each day practicing. We use Singapore math. They will do this in addition to their lesson. I have a list of games-online and board, flashcards, websites, wrap-ups, Math Mat and other ways they can choose to practice. I am doing this with a second grader and eighth grader--you can always use practice
Rewards for doing well--a few candy corn after lunch.
Don't feel guilty. My dd is 8 and is really only comfortable with addition up to 15 or so right now. Subtraction is hard for her. Find fun ways to practice and she'll get it. She is only 7, everything will be fine.

Math Is Fun has an online trainer. My DS likes it better than flashcards.

My son REALLY liked the online drills that Math-U-See has. He had fun trying to beat his time, and it helped him with his multiplication facts a lot.

MEP math has a fun activity where you toss a soft ball back and forth with the student -- you say a number sentence (2+4, etc), toss the ball to the child, and they answer as they catch it. Then they reciprocate (good mental exercise -- if you can ask the question, odds are you can think of the answer). It's more exciting if you have a couple of kids playing, but you can do it one-on-one just as well.

Just a little variation on the typical flashcard drill . . .

Don't beat yourself up! Most kids have this struggle after time off from studies, sometimes after only a few weeks. That's why textbooks do so much review work of stuff they already studied. I discovered the Mammoth Math program through this forum, I really like it. It has worked better than any other math program so far. The lady's (the developer) methods of teaching the stages of math are great.

Keep your chin up, you're doing great, it shows by the fact that you're looking for ways to help your dd!
