Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My eldest son started TT6 a few months ago and we all love it. My son is something of a slow worker, and it can take him up to 2 hours to complete a lesson!!! (ie. lecture, prac. Qs and the lesson questions)I have decided to give him a time limit and anything after the time he has to finish later in the day.

So what do you think is a reasonable time? I'm leaning towards an hour, perhaps broken into two half hours.

Do you think this is a reasonable amount of time for a 12 year old?

Thanks,
Tricia

Tricia,

We use TT4 with my 9 year old and she is a slow worker as well. She takes about an hour but its easier material. I think that the idea of 1 hour with it split between 2 half hours is great.

Have you had any technical issues with TT4? We have been plagued with them.

Both of my children use TT and it takes them each at least an hour for each lesson. I don't give them time limits; I'd rather they completed the lessons at their own pace and not feel pressured.

Sometimes they get frustrated because there is so much to read and understand, and then there are the math problems. I liken it to a traditional school lecture, though, where the teacher speaks, explains and demonstrates, and the students go home and do the practice work there.

Mimi, we haven't used TT4, but we've had no problems with TT6.

I don't want my ds to feel pressured, but his brother and I spend a lot of time waiting for him to finish so we can do our read-alouds, history and so on together.

I'm hoping that a set time will encourage him to speed up and be more accountable for his time.

Tricia

My dd11 spends about 30 minutes on each lesson. She finished TT5 about 3 weeks ago, and after doing the placement test on their site I went ahead and ordered TT7. So far, it's all review and she's still at 30 minutes.

Does your son have patience to sit and work at his math for very long? 45 minutes to 1 hour sounds good to me, but if he starts to lose concentration or gets frustrated after half an hour, then that might be the best length of time for him to sit for one session.

Peace,
Nancy

My nephew (I co-homeschool with my sister) is in 5th grade and he is VERY slow with his math. It often takes him between 45 minutes and an hour to do a lesson, and that is because I've set a time limit. He would take 2 hours to do a lesson if I let him.

We just started using TT4, and haven't had any problems so far...did they have some glitches that got fixed with updates?
