Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello,
I have a very 'mathy' 3rd grader and am thinking of TT for next year. We have been doing Math u see and we are at the end of Gamma (he has also done a bunch of division work on his own). When I looked at the placement tests it for TT5 the first part looked fine for him, but he wouldn't score as well in the second part. But the test for TT4 looked so easy for him...

What have any of you seasoned users found? I just know this child picks up math like breathing and would be dulled out by a lot of extra practice (it also seemed like the areas he hasn't covered on the TT5 placement test are covered in TT5).

Thank- you
Kristie

it is going to be hard to help you with this, since TT4 isn't out yet, so it is hard to make the comparison.

I can say, my son scored squarely into TT4, and we got TT5 anyway. He is good at math, he likes math, and it seemed there would be enough review that it would be okay (i would never have made that decision for older dd who was not as big into math.) We figured, we will give 5 a shot, if it is too much we will drop back to 4. So far, 5 has been fine - we aren't too far in, but he is doing okay. If we hit concepts that are totally foreign, it might move too fast, but we haven't yet, so.....

hth.

Another questionA: Do you find that TT has heaps of review? I have liked Math u see because we find it easy to just do a couple pages and move on. Is TT set up so that the child who needs review does it, and if not they can move on?

Also, do most of you buy the workbook and the cds??

My experience with TT is from Pre-Algebra on. My present Algebra 1 student is at the end of Chapter 2 and does every other problem instead of spending lots of time because so far it's all or nearly all review. Pretty soon it will start to get into new stuff and then she'll start doing the entire problem set. Does that help?

Peace,
Nancy

I would say get 5 and let him take longer than a year to finish it if he needs to.

Sounds good...

But I should prob. get a metric unit if they cover measurement (this year we got a MUS program off of ebay forgetting the American Measurement (and I have not bothered to get a good supplement yet).

My dd went from third grade math to TT5. The first 30 lessons were very easy for her, and after that she had to start paying attention . My second grader is just finishing up Abeka Arithmetic 2, and has scored well on the TT4 placement test, so we plan on using TT4 for him next year.

So, I would go with TT5 for your third grader, for next year.
