Can anybody tell me if it is really necessary to buy the book that goes with the CDs?
I heard it's preatty thick and I would hate to pay for shipping and not using it (shipping for Alaska is very expensive).

It is not too bad because it is not a harbound book it is a spiral paperback. I also think that TT has free shipping.

I would get the text along with the cd's.

One thing to remember is that computers sometimes stop working for long periods of time and it would be hard to justify not working on your math for that period of time.
