I have no idea what calculator to get - the ones I see advertised seem to cost over $100 - does anyone have a recommendation?

If this child has an interest/desire of going into engineering I would consider getting and HP.

The HP's have a unique entry system that is different than a typical calculators. So, if you aren't familiar with you will need a bit of instruction. However, once you get use to it it will be hard to ever go back to a regular calculator.

My father was an engineer and I started using this calculator in 8th grade...I still have that calculator as well as my expensive graphing calculator from college.
