Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A friend mentioned that Cathy Duffy gave Chalk Dust a great rating for high school - I had never even heard of them.

Any views?

I use it and really like it. Do you have any specific questions?

My daughter, Marie, used it for only 1/2 a year in 9th grade before going to school at the beginning of the second semester. By using it for even that short amount of time, she was quite a bit ahead when she started the Algebra program at school.

We thought it was a great text.

We are still using Chalkdust:) We use it all the way through calculus. My daughter had calculus this year at the university she attends, and she aced the class. It also teaches how to use the TI-83 calculator, which she used for chemistry and calculus.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

I plan to use this curriculum with all my children.

Wow! I was just watching a demo. This looks really great...

Huh. I was wondering how I was going to teach upper level math when we get there...someday. While I aced Calculus in college...I am not sure my mommy brain remembers much of anything.

The series is set up like a college lecture...which is pretty cool in that it probably helps to serve as a "transition" for home schoolers to a more "traditional" school environment in college.

Very cool.

If you don't mind I am going to throw some of my questions out there
-how long are the lectures? Can you stop them and continue at another time? Ds doesn't have a long attention span(especially with math).
-is there some comic relief interspersed? Ds needs occasional engagement. A silly joke here or there or funny comment about what he is lecturing about would be so helpful. He does well with the IEW tapes--just enough fun.
-have you ever had to call Dana Mosely? Honestly, this is what attracts me most to this program. I can be somewhat hands off and have a knowledgeable person helping ds. I am maxed out in the math area And for Mr. Mosley, having the DVD's clearly explain things makes his job easier--so they must be good
-it includes lesson plans and tests, correct? And answer keys with the problems written out?
-I think we decided to do Jacobs for this year's Algebra 1. I think I can do one more year and save my pennies for next year. Was your daughter OK watching the same instructor for years? I am thinking we'll start next year and hopefully continue through until college.
-worth every penny?    It seems that way. I cannot find a negative review anywhere.
Thanks!

Depends: usually between 15 minutes - 30 minutes. There are occasions where the lectures are 50+ minutes (rare though)In the later case you just do half of the lecture/problems and continue the same pattern the next day.

Not really....Dana Mosley is an excellent teacher, but he is no fluff.

-have you ever had to call Dana Mosely? Honestly, this is what attracts me most to this program. I can be somewhat hands off and have a knowledgeable person helping ds.

Absolutely! He is a pro at this and all the kinks have been worked out. First you e-mail numerous times before you would even need to pick up the phone. His e-mails are very detailed and easy to follow.

-it includes lesson plans and tests, correct? And answer keys with the problems written out?

Lesson plans...NO, but you can find them on the Homeschool Tracker YaHoo group page. They do give you a general outline, i.e. do every third problem. It does include tests and answer keys with worked out solutions.

Was your daughter OK watching the same instructor for years?

Actually, I think that was to her benefit. I do not feel she missed any concepts and that all the material was thoroughly covered.

Hope this helps some, if you have any more questions I would be happy to answer.
