Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does your 3rd going into fourth grader know their multiplication facts? If so are they quick at it?
My dd knows how to multiply and can do the facts up to 12's but she is not very quick at it.
For example when I gave her her 3's table and timed her for 20 questions it took her 3mins 29 secs.
Would you consider that acceptable? I do not want to be too hard on her but I also do not want to move on if she should know them better and then she just gets frustrated.

What a coincidence! I just posted an article about math facts on my blog:
Math Facts Are Like Learning To Type

To answer your question... No, none of my kids have mastered their multiplication facts by the end of 3rd grade. We continue on with our math program anyway. They understand what multiplication is and how to figure things out, and we keep working on math facts, but we never stop learning new things just because the facts are slow.

[If a child didn't understand the basic, foundational concepts of multiplication, that would be a totally different story. For that, I would stop.]

I did let one child, who was particularly slow, use a multiplication table for reference until it was no longer needed.

It's me, linking again.......only because I found the mouse to my laptop

Warning...this is more than you asked for, but it is on my mind these days too.......I have a few that are rather slow to learn these.....but learn them they will

Here is what we are using to speed up our multiplication facts, you'll have to scroll down the thread for the link Timez Attack. .

We also use triangle flash cards. This is to a free set you can print from Donna Young. I bought ours. I know Rainbow Resorce sells them.

My ds, fourth grade now, is just getting them faster. He understood how multiplication worked for the past few years. But drilling wasn't going to work for him until recently.
I couldn't stress him with timed tests until this year--he has the competitive thing going now. So, we are plugging along and working hard at making sure ALL our math facts are second nature.
Timez Attack is one of his favorite things to do and has helped considerably

Have you seen Times Tales? When you start on the upper times tables this may be helpful. Stories are used to help memorize the facts.

It is working for us!

Our daughter has struggled with this for YEARS, and is finally getting them down well. She's just finishing 7th grade! Her brothers learned them much earlier. Fro them, Quarter Mile Math drills (CD ROM) worked GREAT.

For her, Schoolhouse Rock, Multiplication Rock worked the best, and now she's also using Learning Wrap Ups for fun. I just found an algebra set that I want to buy for her!!!

My dd is just finishing 3rd grade, and she still uses her fingers for multiplication. We are going to try some different things this summer to help her learn her multiplication facts, like music, etc. She has played Timez Attack, but it really didn't interest her.

I'm not too worried about it at this point, since she has a really good understanding of math. I gave her the placement test for Teaching Textbooks 5 yesterday, and she did really well, so we'll just continue on the math journey and work on memorizing the facts. FWIW, she didn't really have all her addition facts memorized until this year. It just slowed her down some...

My rising 3rd grader does not know every single fact but the ones he knows, he knows rather quickly. My highschooler took much longer to learn her facts. I refused to learn mine in school until I really understood and was convinced - but I am a math major.
