Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you use?   What grade level do you consider Miquon completion to be?

I started out using Miquon exclusively, then started supplementing with standard workbooks, like MCP Math or Kumon, and now I supplement the standard texts with Miquon.   I'm not really crazy about Kumon, but my kids like them so we save them for treats. Although the six Miquon books are supposed to take you through third grade, I found that at third grade level, they were ready for regular Math. We have never made it to the Purple Book. I use MCP Math C (although I've heard good things about Horizon, so it's worth a look.) All of my kids have transitioned well to Saxon 5/4 from there so far.

My kids always like the Orange Book, but they tend to lose interest towards the end of the Red Book. That's when we start skipping around. One daughter hated Miquon, and so I hardly ever did it with her. I used Cuisenaire rods with her for a very long time, however, until she got the concepts down. She doesn't reach for them very much anymore though, and she is finishing up second grade. I don't drill facts until we start using Saxon 5/4, (at fourth grade) and I let them use rods for as many problems as they want.

One of my sons just finished Miquon Math and I started him on Singapore Math 4. It has been a good level for him after finishing Miquon. So far it has been fairly easy. The good thing is that certain concepts are being covered that were not covered in Miquon (i.e. rounding numbers).
