Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I know TT starts at 5th grade now. Any suggestions on what to use beforehand, if you know you will be switching to that as soon as you are able? Math is so NOT my strong suit, and I have played the curriculum hop with it for oldest DD, and now ds9 too - and I don't want to do that. I have yet to find a program that really works well (besides TT.) I can't stand Saxon, and have tried Singaprore, the old Math-U-See, and ds9 is currently using Horizons but we just trudge through....he doesn't love it, but he does it, but he is GOOD at maths/sciences, and I hate for him to have to trudge....

any advice?

I am leaning towards using MCP math till TT. They are simple, inexpensive, the pages are well laid out and are not overwhelming.   I can still help the child at that math level.     (The MUS manipulatives work well with MCP.)

So, I emailed TT and asked them, and they said:

"I'm afraid we don't [have suggestions of what to use prior], but we are working on some more lower grades. We should have Math 4 this spring and they are talking about Math 3 in the fall."

I thought some others might be interested in knowing that younger grades are coming out!

Laura:

I know I'm hugely late in this discussion, but we use TouchMath. After my two oldest became acquainted with the TouchMath method, they segued into 7th and 8th grade TT.

My 3rd is 10. He's still in TouchMath until the end of this year. Then I'm testing him to see where he'll end up in TT.

Hope that helps!
