Hi,
My daughter will probably finish the Math U See primer by December. Should I go ahead and order the next level and start alpha in the spring? Am I pushing her? Thoughts?
Thanks,
Emily

I would go ahead and start her. Maybe you could take a bit of a break if you wanted too.
The nice thing with MUS is that the kids work at their own pace and if she has the concepts then let her just keep going. Don't hold her to what is typically taught just because she is in a certain grade.

How old is your daughter? One option is to heavily supplement with living math books and only work on MUS on or two times a week. (I would probably do that anyway, actually.)

Janette,
She's 5, about to be 6. If I supplement with living math books, where I can go to find this?
I have to admit, not having a clear guideline kinda scares me, especially when it comes to math.
Thanks,
Emily
P.S. Theresa, thanks for the encouragement.

I'm not against the living books idea but I don't think that there is any harm in starting the next book. Getting a bit ahead gives you the luxury of taking things at a more leisurely pace. And MUS is a very gentle program which allows you to work at your own pace. If you try it and feel you've hit a brink wall, you can always back off and go the living books route.
Hope this helps...

Emily, I'm sorry that I never got back to this. Angie and Lisa linked to great -- extensive -- living math lists. There are a few here too: LivingMathList.doc

Thanks, y'all for the advice! It really helps. I think I'm gonna try both. :-)
