Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to plan a "Main Lesson" block for Math for my 8 year old. I LOVE the math gnomes stories on Serendipity but---I think he's just past the concepts presented there so far ! He's pretty proficient with basic adding and subtracting--we were just starting to explore adding double digits and place value/carrying and borrowing when we dropped the more traditional curriculum a few months ago (the Main Lesson idea is going GREAT, BTW!).

So I was thinking of doing a Main Lesson mostly on "Place Value", and it might be nice to introduce the multiplication/division concept, in a gentle way, at some point soon. The gnome stories would so appeal to him. He is highly creative and "nontraditional" and very hands on. Is there a source for these stories or for lessons like this for older children?? Something easy for a parent to use, and not expensive?

(I would love to use living math books too, but our library does not have a good selection, and I can't buy them just now, so that probably isn't really an option.)
