Does anyone know anything about it? Have you used it? I do know Waldorf is "controversial". I was just wondering what the methods were. I know the children make up a lesson book for math but that is about all I know.
I have been looking around on different sights and here on the boards, but I have come up with nothing real concrete.
Any insight?

I know that Waldorf uses Main lessons in maths and, in the early grades, uses stories to teach about numbers and number concepts. I think one can adapt such ideas for a Catholic homeschool.

Thank you Leonie! I have been "surfing" the web and looking at different things on Waldorf Math. Some of it is just so way out there (and not just the math  ). A fellow local homeschool mom has some old Oak Meadow curriculum that she picked up somewhere and she is going to let me look through it. Maybe I will get a better idea if I can really look through it.

Donna, Is the rest of the Gabriel poem published in a book that you would recommend? Did you make up the King, Queen and Princess parts? I really like them. :)

I'm using Donna Simmons' first and second grade math this year. She's got a version of the stories there.She uses squirrels instead of gnomes.I'm thinking these math gnomes would be as memorable as they are adorable. Waldorf math really appeals to me, but I'm so not a math person that probably does mean much and I don't know it in practice the way Donna does.
My dd is using Oak Meadow's Math. It's not real Waldorfy at the stage though.

Oakmeadow is right here in Vermont. I have used a lot of their resources and loved them! They don't seem to push the Rudolph Steiner philosophy.
The children really got into the beeswax molding which was really soothing.
Every Christmas or birthday one of the children would ask for beeswax(which Oakmeadow carries). I always find it soothes them to play with it.
I love the math stories and the gnomes are CUTE!

Anyone want to share some math stories...? The kids love this practice and I need some inspiration (or imitation if you don't mind) to keep it going...I don't have time right now, but I would like to add our recent math activity to my blog today. If others have fun gnome or math stories to share, I would appreciate it.

I actually love Oak Meadow for the lower grades. It's funny, but I have been tearing my house up looking for the OM first grade books for my William. I adore the way they present math. It worked very well with the oldest three.

Aren't those sweet? I've been knitting little gnomes lately, but they won't stand up like these. These look like a simple little project that I could do with Will while introducing the characters and their functions.
I noticed that you have a bevy of pretty gnome friends pictured on your blog, Elizabeth. And I want to thank you for recommending the felt-craft books on your blog. I just got mine in the mail. They are fab. It did, however, result in an online shopping trip. I can't wait for the things to get here!
