Wow! What a neat looking program. My ds would probably love it as he is into knights, castles, etc. I'm just wondering about the level. I didn't see what "grades" they would place it at. I'm wondering if it is sort of advanced for a 1st grader to follow along with. I hope someone gives you a review Rox. It's really tempting!

That does look like fun Rox, thanks for mentioning it. And Bridget, you can click on the basics book and pull up sample pages. Since it does add, sub, mult, divi, story problems, etc I'm thinking it must be 1st-4th grade level....I just think it would be fun to do....Oh, I just looked further and here's what it says:
Quote:

Basic arithmetic for Grades 1-4 is
included. No Grade level is mentioned
in the Instruction Manual as teenagers
who didn't "get it" find it also helps
them reconstruct the foundation they
need for their more complex math.

Hmmm. I might just have to check that one out!

Somebody, Anybody, PLEASE talk me out of ordering this! It looks like so much fun for my ds who is just really into knights!!! Trouble is, I already have enough math curriculum. I really don't NEED anymore. But, it's "calling me"!!
This is one of those times when I wish I had all the time in the world and an endless bank account for homeschool materials!

Chicken lady, that's the problem. I think I would like it too! AND, I was thinking, from what I can tell, it is not a workbook. It's more of a write on wipe off sort of thing right? So I could use it with all three of my younger kids! So really, it's not THAT expensive, when I think of all the kids that will get a chance to use it. I'm also thinking it could be used as a supplemental program instead of a main program. I could use it a couple times a week to reinforce the other math they are doing.
I also just showed it to my 13yo. He says it's not fair that his younger siblings get all the cool stuff!(Not doing a very good job of talking myself out of this am I?)

Kirsten I don't think it has work sheets . I don't like work sheets much but we just use ray's with ds 11 who struggled with singapore .
I had looked at MUS but it was the work sheet aspect I did not like . I find ray's works well so far .
ds 6 is fine with singapore as were our older biys but ds 11 never liked it he'd have absolute fits crying frustrating fits . so I trashed singapore with him . We'd used OM with him till gr 3 then I didn't want to use OM curriculum anymore . I thought MUS might be similar to OM but it wasn't . I'm hoping knoble knights will be more like OM and then for fractions there is a waldorf math program I saw I'm hoping to get looked very similar to knoble knights . I may end up having to go MUS for highschool with Indigo as I don't know what waldorf etc. there is out there for highschool level math . I'm not going to think that far ahead he may be like his mum and only need gr 5 math skills lol .
Much Lov , Rox

Rox, We have tried EVERYTHING for math (well almost). We have skipped around so much that right now we are only in MCP 2nd grade But.. we are making progress this year which is so nice to finally see. So I am hoping knoble knights math will make the concepts we have not learned yet not so difficult. We will see. I did end up ordering it

You'll all want to check out the Sir Cumference books. It's time for me to go through the series again. I can get 4 of them at the library.

Gwen,
What ages would you say the Sir Conference books are suited for?

Oops Becky, I'm baaaaack...sorry for the delay. I's say a very wide age range because they are fun for olders (11-middle school) but probably well suited to 7-10yr. olds.

I reminded myself to reread them and just picked up 2 today.

We've just reread the Sir Cumference books too. The 4 and 5yo loved them because of the story line. The older boys can actually understand them. They really are fun for any age.

Jumping into this a little late but I posted this on another board recently and thought it might be helpful here:

The basic kit comes with the laminated board, dry erase markers, picture cards (heavier coated cardstock) of the knights/characters and "gems" or glass marble things for counting. You also get a set of 12 plastic animals for a game that is on the reverse side of the board-they are nice quality.
You get the manual with all instruction and stories and a CD of how to do it.
This is all $78.
IF you want the wooden knights they are extra but of course, you need them to maximize the visuals ;) These are pricey-$15 each-yikes. Again, nice quality but not mandatory. You may well be able to come up with an alternative for these!

Could this be a complete program?
I think it could come close for K-4th grade? You would just need to add some basic drill I think and practice worksheets that you can get on the web free or something like calculadders.
Topics covered (as listed on front of book) are:
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, odd/even numbers, place value, points of compass, factors, multiples, times tables, math facts, division tables, long multiplication, long division, borrowing/carrying (regrouping), story problems and role play.

The book is a teacher manual, not a student workbook. HOWEVER, you still use the book to show the child different math concepts-it has visuals, graphs, and stories in it.

I like how it teaches place value-very visual and makes sense. It has lots of easy "jingles" or verses to remember some of the basic math facts. Some use clapping or movement for the kinestic kids.

Again, I haven't used this extensively YET. I was planning on using it more when we hit multiplication and division. Though it was helpful for place value.
After looking thru this for you I realized I should be using it ALOT more! LOL

I see on my form that you can buy just the book for $14 and that might help you get a better feel for it. She might take that cost off if you buy the whole pkg?
Hope that helps.
Ann

PS For whoever asked about it being used with a dry erase board-yes it is. So you can use over and over. There are no worksheets.

I *LOVE* it.

Really. My dd6 loves her math. I love doing it with her. That has never happened before.

I think I reviewed it somewhere on here....

I am so glad to hear this! I was nervous when you asked me about it before, as I never know if something we love will work for another family (and I would hate for someone to spend money due to my suggestion and then hate it !)

We really do like this program quite a lot.
