Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My ds is an unusually gifted dc when it comes to gross motor skills. He is most definitely a classic Kinesthetic learner. I had read somewhere that this type of learning style will do better with writing before reading.
He is showing signs of wanting to learn to read, and he is 5.5 yo. He loves being read to, and listening to stories. We do FIAR.
Any input?
In His Heart,
Christy

Christy,
I don't know if this is the same thing or not but my ds is kinesthetic and does well with Montessori. It's not the writing before the reading, for him it is the spelling before the reading. For instance, instead of learning to read "cat" he uses what is called the Moveable Alphabet to build the word. There are some who are much more experienced with Montessori that could help you more with this one I bet. You might try checking at the Montessori and More forum.
HTH!

I was thinking Montessori too.   My son is using a cornmeal tray to write letters and words.   He has a book called the Red Letter Alphabet book where the letters are made of velveteen so there is that texture.

This isn't very MOntessori, but my active kinesthetic son loved to do simple worksheets and word games.   I think it was because he got to interact with the words physically before he actually had to sit down and read paragraphs. I had some workbooks and we would make some of the sheets into, sort of, games.

Thankyou Ladies!
I am familiar with Montessori as I was a certified aide in college. We've played around with letters in sand, but he is pretty good at using a pencil, crayon, marker, etc.,so I think I will introduce him to some simple printing pages.I agree Willa-it's not really very Montessori, but since he sees his big sis writing, I think he will be into it!
Thankyou!

Warmly,
Christy
