Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just had to share this one--

I've posted here recently w/???s about trying to teach my middle son to read.

Tonight before bed he was working very hard for about 45 minutes at the table. He ran to me a few times asking how you write certain sounds ("un", and the word "the" were two). When dh went to tell him it was bedtime, he had written several letters on paper and cut them out into tiny squares, with one or two letters per square, and he was trying to piece together the words "the conspiracy". He came pretty darn close! Close enough for dh to figure out the word. He also had drawn and cut out several action scenes, and put those in a sequence too. He explained that he was designing a movie, with the title "the conspiracy". I told him this was exactly the kind of "story board" that real movie designers use!

So--knock me over with a feather!!    Maybe we just need to switch from "mat" and "cat" to great big words, and he'll get it, LOL!

You know, with my first son who really struggled to learn to read and had some learning issues, the mat and cat stories made no sense to him. It wasn't until he read a story with meaning that reading really clicked with him. I'll never forget the day he turned to me after struggling to sound the silly sentences and said, "Mom, this doesn't make sense, it's just stupid sentences put together." I said, you're right and we never used it again. Homeschooling is so awesome for that!

Yea! Isn't that funny when they choose to step over the "small steps" we put in front of them so they can leap over to bigger ones?

Way to go!
