Does anyone know of a program that combines all of these into one? I have looked at Megawords, but that is all that seems to fit the bill. I am trying to simplify and decrease spending at the same time. Possible?

I would even go for something found on the internet if that were possible.

Thanks!

Beth

How old are your dc? We have used Writing Road to Reading with the Sanseri How to and Creating a Spelling Notebook. It is teacher intensive but teaches spelling based on phonics and requires some vocabulary in terms of creating sentences, etc. Some people love it - some hate it! It is intense if done exactly as written but of course we modify it like we do everything else .

Beth,
Have you tried Sound Beginnings which is sold by Julia Fogassy at Our Father's House?
It is based on the Writing Road to Reading and is recommended by Laura Berquist for 2nd grade...I have used it for my 2 oldest and it is really quite a complete program...

Are your dc old enough for dictation? Here is what I do:

I use this Eagle's Wings Phonics handbook as a reference for myself.

We try to do dictation on Monday or Tuesday. From the dictation mistakes I go over the relevant spelling rules with dc and assign misspelled words for the week. I pick several words as vocabulary words and have them look them up. During the week I try to review the phonics rules again and on Fri. we do an oral review/test of the the phonics rule, spelling words and vocabulary (of course this happens perfectly in my dreams but this a general idea of what my weekly efforts.

Thanks!

My boys are 9 and 10. I decided to go with a vocabulary program and a spelling program with an emphasis on phonics.

Beth:

Can I ask which programs you went with? I'm still deciding on language arts for my son.

Thanks!
