Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been doing the research and want to start using the CM approach this next school year. I have a 10 yr old ds (just finished CHC's 4th grade), 8 yodd (chc's 3rd) and 6 yr old ds (we aren't doing much besides reading books and 100 EZ lessons and MUS Primer) who I will be doing school with this next year. (I also have a 4 yr old ds, 2 yr old ds and 8 month dd who will be playing beside us) I also try to use FIAR but have been remiss in using it this last year.

My ds 10 loves to read but HATES to write and is one awful speller. I keep reading that usually narrations start to be done in writing by the child around this age. He balks any time I require him to write. I was experimenting with having him narrate an answer to a question in the book RARE CATHOLIC STORIES AND POEMS while I wrote it down and it was nearly 2 pages.

Would you recommend that I just keep having him narrate aloud to me and I keyboard or handwrite it for him for a while longer? Any suggestions for helping him with spelling?

He was a late reader (his speech therapist was beginning to worry and wanted to recommend someone to test him but we just kept plugging along and he eventually started to read). He has been reading fluently for about 1.5 yrs and just in the last 9 months or so has begun to read for enjoyment. He now gets up extra early each morning to read for an hour or so before everyone gets up. So I wonder if he may be a late writer also.

We have been using CHC's spelling and grammar books and I am wondering if I should get the 5th grade ones for next year or not. I think he would love writing if he was a better speller.

This is the first of probably 101 questions I post as I delve farther into this!
