Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Here's Trip's narration of the new-mid grade novel by
Douglas Evans:

MVP is a book about a twelve year old boy who is trying to travel around the world in 40 days. On his way, he passes through 6 countries and over two oceans. It is full of mystery, deception and conspiracy. The boy, Adam, enters a competition without knowing that he isn't the only person trying to accomplish the feat. The MVP (Magellan Voyage Project) is the team he plays for. Though he does not know it at first, there are 23 other teams (1 per time zone) with 23 otehr players trying to get around the world in 40 days. All the teams and players are part of the GGG (Great Global Game) with 99 rules. During the game, however, one of the rules is broken and 99 teenagers are hired to shoot sleeping darts at the leading players so they don't make it within the 40 day period. Read the rest to find out who wins the 40 million dollar prize!

Hey, I guess it's more of a mini book review than a real narration

You can almost hear the breathless excitement. That's some narration, ehhm I mean book review. He should put that on Amazon for a review. I think it's great.

Actually, I told him to write a review for Amazon, and that's how it started. What I really wanted him to do was write an entire page in cursive, as he is reluctant to do that, and cursive handwriting is part of the exam he will take in the fall. After he wrote it, I was about to type it into Amazon, but thought better of it. For one thing, anything you send to Amazon becomes the property of Amazon. Also, it takes a while for reviews to show up on Amazon, and it would be instant here...and he can edit it in a few days here after he has had time to distance himself from the writing a bit, if you know what I mean. In rereading today, I see a few unclear sentences that he might want to fix.

I usually do not have the kids write narrations of books they read for pleasure, though we do oral narrations naturally (around the dinner table, or in convincing a sibling to read the book). He struggled not with the handwriting aspect, but with the idea of writing a review without giving too much away. That marks the differenece between a book review and a narration, as I see it.

The book itself sounds like a video game, doesn't it?    The kids really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the encouraging comments!
