Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am investigating what I want to use next year.

We are currently using Language of God 4, but we never get to the composition aspects of it, the flipping to the back to do the writing exercises doesn't seem to work for us, I know it's not a big deal, but she works somewhat independently and doesn't look at the bottom.
She doesn't mind it LOG. The stinker sent of a writing assignment to her facilitator before I could review it. The response given was that she had excellent spelling and grammar, but needed to work on her word spacing. I read it after the fact, she missed 2 capitals, and one comma. So obviously, she is retaining.

Is it enough though? I am considering First Language Lessons, I used this with an older child, and have the PDF. I happen to like the FLL, but not sure about it over all. We also have Daily Grammar Lessons 5. DD13 didn't like it so there it sits.

As dd9 gets older I have Analytical Grammar, again, dd13 didn't like it. DD13 is a special case, having only started homeschooling at the end of 5th grade, and was traumatized at school. So I can't go by her responses at all.

While LOG worked for us. I'm finding I have these other resources just sitting here.... We're running a tighter budget for the next few months, so if I can make what I have work... It would be great, but flip side, is it isn't so tight that I would mess with her success either.

Suggestions?

If you're doing a CM approach, much of your language arts is covered by copywork and studied dictation. This is where she has a chance to practice word spacing, good capitalization and punctuation skills, and so on.

You look over a selection before beginning and talk about those kinds of issues, as well as identifying any words that might be difficult to spell. Depending on the length of the selection, you copy it over however many days, in about 10-minute increments of time. Then you can use all or a section of it for a dictation exercise on Friday.

Where LOG (which I also use and like) asks you do do copywork and dictation every 10-20 pages, I find it's better to do copywork daily and dictation weekly. In our house, we do still use LOG, but I think it's better to ignore the back section entirely and to do the exercises in small increments daily, with daily copywork taking pride of place. It really does teach them to internalize (and therefore use) good grammar and structures of good written English.
