What kind of writing paper do you all use? My writers, 10 yodd, 8yods and 6yods use varying sizes of either the elementary lined, with the dots-down-the-middle, paper, or the Handwriting Without Tears writing paper.
When do you graduate to regular notebook paper?
Is there such a thing as the lined w/dots paper in a spiral bound notebook?
For that matter, has anyone seen grid/graph paper in a spiral bound notebook?

I am also interested in this thread. I have been using tear out lined newsprint paper for my ds9's copywork notebook, punching holes in it and adding it to a three ring binder after he has completed a page. This method is lousy  as the pages get all torn up where the holes are and the newsprint is so ugly.
Anyone know of nice notebooks for 9/10 years olds that use white paper, are easy to write on, lay flat, look nice and stay in good shape throughout the year?

For dd we use normal spiral bound notebooks, wide rule. I was opposed to the spiral edging for the first few years on the boat as I was afraid it would rust and get yucky and made her buy bound notebooks, but she hated them as you cannot fold them in half and write on your lap as easily, and they don't stay open on a table as well. She was never fond of the newsprint paper as it rips and smears when kids erase.
Wal-mart carries tiny 4"x4" spiral bound graph paper in the Choco-Latte Collection. Kmart also carries this collection but I've never seen the graph paper there.

I got this recommendation sometime back (from the CCM list?) as a supplier with a lot of paper and notebook options at good prices. Anyway, would something like this be what you are looking for? Miller's White Sulphite Penmanship Paper. If you go to the drop down menu you'll find they offer a variety of grade level paper as well as spiral notebooks of these same paper. This might meet your needs as well, Rebecca.

They also have spiral bound graph pads. In the past we've gotten spiral bound graph pads at places like Office Max - can't recall the brand name.
And another option from this company is the spiral bound journals with half page lined and half page blank. These are great for nature journaling.
I have to say I haven't yet ordered from Miller since until recently I had a local sources for this type of half & half journal, but now that I've reminded myself it's here I'll be ordering.

You could get your handwriting paper comb-bound at Kinkos, I think. Then it would lay flat.

I have some of the pads mentioned from Miller Pads and Paper. They had a booth at the NCHE conference. They are great!

Well - thank you so much Molly for asking this question and Mary for responding. I have been trying to think of something to use for my 9 yo with vision problems. The loose leaf just isn't big enough but the primary print is poor quality and never seems to be bound. In a sprial notebook, things wouldn't get lost and I could still get the correct spacing size so he can gradually get smaller with his print in a normal way! I cannot wait to browse the sight. Once again you moms answer my questions even before I post!!!!  .

Mary, that is exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!! And, JoAnna, thanks for the extra recommendation--it's always nice to hear someone's had success with something before I buy it!
I never thought of having the office supply store bind the paper. That's a good idea, too. We'll see how Miller's works first, because I'd prefer spiral binding. The upside of having something GBC bound at Staples is that I can make the notebooks as thick as I want. Hmmm...must think...

Another bonus is for the lefties in the crowd -- you can have the binding on the top of the page to make it easier to write..... (I'm a lefty, dh is a lefty and two, maybe 3, of my kids are natural lefties )
