Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,

My son is about to turn 13 and has been working very hard this year on a short story that he is very proud of. It even contains a few pictures. It isn't very long so far, but he is always talking about getting it "published". I thought it might be fun to have it "published" for him for Christmas and I could have sworn I remembered reading something years ago about a company that would take your kids work and put it in a little bound book and the pics would be included etc. Or, maybe there is a kit that would be fairly professional, as he is sort of discriminating as far as it not being "babyish". Does anyone know of where this could be done? Thanks!

Have you looked at Lulu.com? No personal experience here, but I think it might be worth looking into.

I was going to suggest Lulu, too. In addition CafePress does books, so you might look at that as well. As I recall, CafePress has some very useful downloadable formatting templates (free) which set up your pages to translate well into a bound format (adjusts the "gutters" on the side which will be bound at the spine, so that your text doesn't disappear into it).

Both Lulu and CafePress differ from "vanity" presses in that you don't put down a large amount of money to publish your work, and you don't have to buy a huge stack of your own books -- they're print-on-demand. This would be perfect for the kind of project you envision.

Sally (who has been looking seriously into self-publishing . . . )
