Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a VERY reluctant writer who needs direction by other than me (why does this always happen to me when a kid hits high school?). I thought maybe Braver Writer online classes would engage him. Since other kids who are in the class are going to see his writing, it might encourage him to polish his work before thinking it's good enough for others to see.

So, I was wondering whether any of you have tried this class. What worked well when you used it? What challenges did you have with it? How did you fit it into your schedule? Can the kids complete assignments for other classes (history or religion, for example)? Or does Julie assign more open-ended things? If very many of you can't imagine your kids writing without Brave Writer, I might just tag another son onto the class.

I haven't used her online stuff yet...my kids are still elementary, but I plan to use her for highschool. I've heard her speak in person twice and am very impressed! I also use her Writers Jungle for all my kids.

I have done the Bravewriter Classes with one of my sons. He very much enjoyed the Just So Stories Class and I thought the story he wrote for that was delightful.

He had a lot more trouble in the SAT composition class and just couldn't seem to get the hang of that.

SO I guess I would say for creative writing it worked for us, but not so much for essays - but I think that was more due to the talents and limitation of my son (who doesn't enjoy writing) more than Julie's course.

My son did the Kids write basic class. We were able to use his interests and current studies for writing. I absolutely love Bravewriter. I have taken a number of classes for myself to learn to teach writing. I have taken the copywork/dictation, nature study, freewriting, and maybe another. To me it's very CM and unschooly.
