Could someone pls explain dictation to me? We have been doing dictation for awhile but I have somehow forgotten the point of it. When my dc ask me how to spell each word, should I spell them. Is the point spelling, punctuation, overall retention?

In addition, this video by Sonya Schafer at Simply Charlotte Mason explains it very well.

My DS10 gets a passage for dictation on Monday, highlights the words that are troublesome for him, practices through the week, uses the passage for copywork, and then on Friday we do the formal dictation.
