Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've never been consistent in undertaking a formal program for grammar or writing. On the whole I feel confident that the exposure to rich literature our children have received has served them well. However as ds14 struggles a little to smoothly translate his thoughts to words, finding a program may aid him.

Last term he read Eats, Shoots and Leaves and enjoyed that approach. This term I'm considering Daily Grammar His older siblings used an OOP English program that combined grammar and writing exercises. He was overwhelmed by this, although I'm not sure if he gave up simply because it is too hard, yet he needs to try harder. We tried Lingua Mater and he really didn't care, handed in sloppy, careless work.

Any suggestions of grammar/writing ideas that worked with 14yr old boys who aren't passionate about writing?

I think short, daily grammar lessons are just fine, and these would work.

We've used Jensen's Format Writing - it's kind of dry, but very helpful. It starts with paragraphs and then moves on to essays, business letters, etc.
