Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I can't believe how difficult it was to get these narrations out of the children. We really have gotten out of the habit of narrating this past year.

We will be starting a Bird Notebook for our next study. Hopefully that will spark their enthusiasm again!

Cliff Swallows
Narration by Madison
Age 8
St. Joseph’s Day
March 20, 2006

Cliff Swallows build nests in barns and cliffs and other similar places. I think Cliff Swallow nests look like a hollow egg with a whole in it. The nests are made out of mud pellets.

Cliff Swallows are somewhat small birds that have some blue on them.

Cliff Swallows are very beautiful fliers. They come back to California every St. Joseph’s day.

A good book to read if you want to learn about Swallows is, "The Song of the Swallows" by Leo Politi. It is about California Missions, St. Joseph’s Day, and Swallows. Another good book to read is, "A Handbook of Nature Study" by Anna Botsford Comstock. "A Handbook of Nature Study" is about lots of things, including Swallows.

     I like Cliff Swallows!

The Wind and the Sun
Narration by Morgan
Age 6
March 8, 2006

Once upon a time, the Wind and the Sun were fighting who was the strongest. Then a young traveler came. They decided that who ever made the traveler take off his coat was the strongest. First, the Wind gave out a big blow of wind. But that made the traveler wrap his coat tighter. Then the sun gave a great big shine! And that made the traveler unwrap his coat and run to the nearest tree. The End

Michelle,
Thrilled to read these I'll read them to the children tomorrow. Well done, it is hard isn't it to get back into the habit.

Wonderful! Plans are to read The Song of the Swallows today as yesterday was . I'll never forget actually seeing the swallows at the Mission in March when I was a kid, big impression since it was also my birthday! I'll definitely be sharing these with my daughter today. Great job!
