Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies!
I know some of you are using Lingua Mater and I was wondering how you are enjoying it. My sil is looking for something that will combine both grammar and writing instruction and Lingua Mater caught her eye...
Can anyone give me their assesment/ likes and dislikes...
Thanks and God Bless,
Alison

Alison,
I loved the look of the book it appealed to MY learning style, not unfortunatley my daughter's.

As my dh pointed out it was too much about how she felt about passages (the passages were lovely btw)It didn't fit for that child's learning style but I'm hoping it will for the next.

Thanks Erin,
I can completely understand. I worried about that problem with my sil's kids (8 boys). Of the older two that are ready for LM one is a quiet sports oriented guy and the other is more of a literal science guy sooooo... I don't know if "lovely" passages would fit
Do you have another suggestions for 7grade grammar/composition program or *gasp* workbook ?
Thanks,
Alison

I am using LM with a 12 yr old boy. He isn't crazy about it, but I don't think its necessarily girly, and its working really well for us. He's your typical dig in the dirt/boy scout kind of kid.

He also did Easy Grammar 5/6 this year, so we have skipped some of the grammar assignments. I love that the writing after day 1 almost always asks the child to respond to the passage in light of a saint quote or something similar. It has forced ds to think a bit harder. A lot of the time, we have to talk it through first. If I don't, he often doesn't understand what they are looking for. I have had to be *very* specific with him about what I want in the way of a response, too. Otherwise I get the bare minimum effort (2 fragment sentences). I like CHC and MA's plan for using it over 2 yrs (6th and 7th). I am going to use it through the 8th grade since we are also going to be doing written narrations in other subjects.

hope this helps!

I am using LM with my dd 12 . She likes it. She is not wild about the grammar part but she likes the writing.
I like the selections the have chosen and, for us, it has been good to have guided responses to the different selections. As Books, I also have to be specific or discuss what they are asking with her because if not I would get a minimal response.
So far grammar for her has been a review. When she was in 5th grade we used Rod and Staff English. It was a very complete year so a lot of the grammar covered so far in LM has been a review (we are on week 12). We are using it over the course of two years also to gives us some time to do extra writing.

Thank you all for your wonderful information. Too bad my oldest is only 7yrs!! LM sounds great. I passed on the information to my sil she was impressed. I'll let you know which direction she chooses to go.
Thank you,
Alison
