Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When you have a child narrate and then type up their words, what do you do about the fact that they don't talk the way they would write? My kids don't talk in complete sentences. They pause, use fragments, run ons, etc. I normally type it as close to how they said it as possible. Do you expect them to be able to "clean it up" after seeing it in print? And if so, at what age?

Thanks!

I just type it as it is narrated, mixed up as they seem sometimes, them when they begin wrting their own at say aged 9-10, it's a whole new process. It's hard to resist wanting to perfect it for them, but try...

I do too, but as they get older, you can introduce editing by reading sections back to them and asking if they would like to change any of it a bit to make it sound better. Usually their ears will pick up on the sentence fragments when they are read aloud and cause them to want to re-word it a bit. Either way it is their own work and I honor their choices.
