Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just thinking ahead...if someone uses Latin Road to English Grammar in fifth grade, does this take the place of the usual courses of Prima Latina, and LC I and II? Have you used LR to EG and want to comment on it?

I'm pasting in the same reply I made on CCM in case others who are interested aren't on that loop.

I use it and love it! However, I think even 5th grade is pushing it a bit;
it's very intensive. We started with Latina Christiana in 6th grade. My ds
didn't like the teacher's voice on the CD, thought she was a bit hoky (same
complaints he has about MUS, which I loved) but since I'd had Latin in high
school, it was pretty easy for me to just use the books to teach it mostly.
We didn't finish it due to some breaks, but it was enough to give him the
basics in a very simplified way, plus a fair amount of vocabulary. We
started with LREG this past fall for 7th grade and it's very good. I did
not get the teacher training DVDs since I've had Latin. Even if you
haven't, the teacher's book spells it all for you very nicely, plus there
are audio CDs for pronunciation and it even goes over a lot of the text
work. We do Latin every day and I think the 14 chapters will work out
approx equal to our 180 day year (I think I figured out we'll finish a week
or so early). It has suggested lesson plans for each chapter and some are
for about 5-6 days/chapter but others take 9-10 days.
As for teaching English grammar, I think Latin in general does a pretty good
job of that b/c it's an inflected language, but in some courses it's more
subtle. LREG explains the English grammar right alongside the Latin grammar
and what is the same/different, etc.
If I had it to do again, I still would recommend beginning with either
Latina Christiana or Prima Latina for one year first, or else wait until the
student is a little older.    Even though LREG starts at the beginning, it's
not a complete review of LC b/c it's taught a little differently, yet it's
got enough review that ds had some confidence with it. Also, it's a good
bit of writing - the student copies a lot of text directly into his own
notebook.
The author states that LREG I and II can be considered the equivalent of one
year of high school Latin. We will continue with II next year and also add
in a modern language, either Spanish or German, depending on what ds
decides.
On the website I think you can request a sample packet, which includes most
of the text (student and teacher) for the first chapter, to help you decide.
It's a pricy course, but I think it's very worth it.
hth,
