Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do y'all do for spelling? I don't want to spend a whole lot of time with it, but my oldest does need some help. (He's in fifth grade.)

Thanks!

Jo

Well, we use All About Spelling, and it works wonderfully, but it is time intensive and Mom intensive. But it's working, and nothing else did, and I can now see this child applying what she has learned in all her writing. For me, that has put made the Mom and time intensive part worth it to me.

I agree with Anita. It does work, but it requires extra "mom-time". I'm finding though, that even if I don't get to it every day, it's making a difference. I used it for a year, then switched to something less "Mom intensive" for my dd, but we are going back to it because I see that she really needs it. My ds has ADHD and it's really worked well for him.

I was going to recommend All About Spelling as well, but thought better of it because you had said you didn't want to spend a lot of time on it. The time spent is well worth it, in my opinion, but I know others disagree. I have heard others like AVKO Sequential Spelling and find it to be effective. It just doesn't get into the WHY of spelling the All About Spelling does.

God bless,
Christine

I am using Spelling City (free online) with Sequential Spelling- just takes a couple minutes to put my list in.

Sequential Spelling...and I highly recommend it. I use it with our eighth and fifth graders. I've tried so many programs and this is by far my favorite. I spend 10 minutes daily per child and it is worth it!
Our eighth grader struggled with spelling for years and between this spelling program and dictation has grown by leaps and bounds!

Can you tell that I love Sequential Spelling?

We use Phonetic Zoo. I love it because it's self teaching
My son does the cd lesson which takes about 15 min, then we spend a few minutes each day going over the words verbally. Three new ones each day. We do this while driving in the car.
