Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this series, by Brian Cleary? It looks like a fun way to introduce parts of speech, and I think I might start with Nearly, Dearly, Insincerely (the title amuses me).

MacBeth,
We have the series.
They are lost on the bookshelves...somewheres.

A good friend of mine who used to teach 6th grade language arts used these books as a fun way to remediate students who were behind in grammar. The kids enjoyed them. I got a look at them once and they are really clever. I would get them, but at 10 bucks a pop, it would really add up to cover all the parts of speech! I have seen them at some libraries, though not mine.

It can add up, though the paperbacks are cheaper...Books like this are very unlikely to be purchased by our library. I am not sure why.

MacBeth -- try getting them interlibrary. Ours has them (but usually doesn't have ones suggested here ) and I've requested them. They have one that sounds hilarious called Give me Bach my Schubert tht's OOP but our library has.

Thanks for mentioning these -- they look like a fun way to intro types of words, etc. The Amzon list shows a poetry book which sounds like fun too:   Rainbow Soup -- looks like a fun intro to poetry!

Fortunately they are at our library (and they have enough copies that Gwen and I won't be fighting each other for them ). These do look fun. Thanks!

Woo Hoo! Thanks, MacBeth. I hadn't noticed the paperback versions! Now I'm off to Amazon.com...again...

Thanks MacBeth!

They had 9 titles at the library. We're going to do verbs next week, then poetry and adjectives at the end of the month.

I've checked a few of his books out of the library, but didn't do them justice before they needed to go back. I should take another look . . .

Lucky for you, I moved out of your library system.

I ordered ours from Children's Book of the Month Club. They came in a set of two. Since the only two we have are for adverbs and prepositions we have not covered those in grammar yet as our eldest is only eight they only enjoy them for the rhyming now. I forgot that there are more of these in the series.. maybe I will remember next time we go to the library.

Another set of books I ordered from CBOMC is The Parts book series by Ted Arnold. Our children howl with laughter each time we read them and they spent the ENTIRE month of December recognizing idioms in our conversations to the point that we had to speak literally or be the fodder of a silliness fit .

Blessings,

It looks like my library has 5--nouns, prepositions, adjectives, verbs, synonyms. They look great!

I have a question about your Interlibrary Loan--is it free? Our old library in TX offered it for free, but our current one charges $3!!!    I'm able to go to any library in the state and check out books, but it sure does make it more inconvenient.

Ours is totally free for kids' books, and 20 cents for adults. $3! I guess you could call it a donation...but you might as well buy it at that cost.

Our is $1.00 regardless of type of book. And I still can't always get the ones you lovely ladies suggest -- so Amazon gets much of my "interlibrary loan fees"
