Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Mad Libs are often mentioned in the various grammar threads as a tool for teaching. We have never had a whole Mad Libs thread though. Thought that might be fun to talk about. I loved Mad Libs as a kid - I still have some books from mmmm...35 years or so ago . All of my kids have enjoyed them and I do think they are a great tool for learning both basic parts of speech and vocabulary. But the kids just think they are fun.

The reason I'm thinking of this is we just spent the weekend on a travelling field trip with Gwen (momwise) and kids and there was much "Mad Lib"-ing going on during the car trip. In fact they finished all the books they brought and were frantically looking for a place to buy more - not avialable at Flying J truck stops .

I mentioned to Gwen I had at one time read the history of Mad Libs - since I couldn't remember I looked it up today - very interesting!

There is a Mad Libs online game at their site.

Gwen also sent me link to some generic mad libs for fall.

What other sources do you have for mad libs type activities? How have you used Mad Libs in your learning at home?

What happened to this thread????

I'm resurrecting it because my 8-year-old is in love with Mad Libs! (And for those of you with an iPhone or iPod Touch, there's a free downloadable Mad Libs app!)

9) noun: anchovies

MaryM, I hope you're seeing this!

It's so funny you bumped this! I was thinking of it a few days ago but got distracted. Now we only need two more words.... then I need to find the story, which I think is on the other computer. I'll let you know. So give me a few more words.
