Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am looking for a writing tutor program, preferably a video tutor similar to that of Latina Christiana. I have seen a few software programs but I would like to know if anyone would recommend one that works well for homeschoolers. It would have to be geared for junior high school students.

Any thoughts and advice, especially links!, would be appreciated.

God bless.
Anne

Dear Anne,

Here is one suggestion.

http://bravewriter.com

I hope the link works!

Julie Bogart has developed a writing programme for all ages, and though to the best of my knowledge it does not include video, she does supply lots of information and encouragement via email list, message boards, weblog and extensive website with lots of information on it. In fact she provides so much information and support that it is possible to start using her ideas without purchasing anything, as I have done. (I have too much curriculum already to justify buying anything but I like her ideas so much that I am getting her manual "The Writer's Jungle" for my birthday!) She has recently published material for high school, and has recently started a new email list for highschool too. There has been quite a bit of discussion on here in the past about Bravewriter, so you might want to do a search on it.

I am sure there are other options. Anyone?

Jane.

I also recommend Bravewriter highly. It has turned our writing around from a dreaded chore to something ds looks forward to and does voluntarily in his own time! I have the book The Writers Jungle as well and it is worth every penny as I find myself referring back to it often. I will definitely purchase "Help for Highschool" when ds is older.
If you want a video course, I've heard good things about the materials from Institute for Excellence in Writing, but have not used them myself.
Good luck.
