I am still debating this whole grammar issue. Especially for my boys who will be Grade 5 - I think I want to keep them doing SOMETHING on Grammar - even just once a week. I am thinking of just something workbooky. Seton is way too heavy. I have never used CHC's language of God series - does anyone have any views on these?
Also how tough are they - my guys have done Grade 4 Easy Grammar (not sure how much they remember?) - and I figure Language of God D Would be good for them?
Thank you.

I recently placed an order with Queen's language. Its a 180 day workbook. I like the look of it, and it incorporates grammar along with picture study, copywork, narration, etc.
If you are just looking for grammar reinforcement and you've completed Easy Grammar 4, how about Daily Grams?

Brilliant idea books. They actually just completed (today!) Easy Grammar 4&5 which I bought directly from the publisher last year. I know there is a Daily Grams 4& but I probably have to call the publisher again.
My only question (maybe for another thread?) is whether diagramming is necessary?

Thank you, Marilyn, for starting this thread. And thank you, Books and Nedra for your suggestions.
I was having a bit of a language arts crisis today...I have tried CHC Language of God for two of my kids for the last few years and been reasonably pleased but I wanted a bit more of a CM approach. I have also had a bit of a problem with unclear instructions with CHC's books. Often, I would have one of the kids come up to me to try and figure out what they needed to do--sometimes I'd have to look at the answer key to figure out what they needed to do...
I ordered Queens for my 2nd, 4th, and 6th graders. The samples online at Timberdoodle look very, very good! I have had limited success with Primary Language Lessons and Intermediate Language Lessons but I do like the idea of a consumable workbook--just makes sense for us. Queens seems like the best of both worlds for us. I will try and post a review a couple of months in...say a prayer this is a good fit for us. I am excited and so are my kids (from what they saw on the samples).

What does Queens have that Hillside's Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons don't? (I'm planning to use the 6th grade Intermediate Language Lessons this year- love it so far!)

Hi Jennifer - today has been grammar crisis day here too! Ok - this is what I think I am doing:
I am going to go with Language of God D for my Grade 5 boys
I am going to use Susan Wise Bauer's Writers Ease to get the copywork etc in.
I am going to attempt IEW with everyone.
I have a the first Queens Grammar book. Jen I think the Queens are very like Primary and Intermediate Language lessons (the re- published ones in color) - my boys just did not take to these - though my daughter loved them. My boys just want nuts and bolts and go out to build forts!

My impression, Jen, is that Queens and Hillside's PLL and ILL are very similar but while Hillside's books are non-consumables, Queen's are workbooks--there are exercises you do right in the book (grammar exercises, copywork, etc).
Whenever I have done PLL and ILL, we have had a separate notebook that we used to transcribe lessons as needed, no biggie--just not needed with the Queen's books...

Thanks for the explanation. I'm glad in that I won't be consuming my ILL -- then my next daughter can use it too (without any extra cost)

Well as you asked...not in my opinion. I've never diagrammed a sentence in my life and I believe I write reasonably well despite the 'lack'. We just don't diagram in Australian schools. Marilyn, you've lived all over, was this part of your education?
