I wanted to let everyone know about a great spelling program that we are using - All About Spelling. I actually first heard about it here on the boards.
My children like it a lot and so do I! More importantly, they are learning how to spell and why words are spelled the way they are - not just memorizing a bunch of word lists. Both are becoming very good spellers. I see the results already! There is a lot of review included in the lessons, so info isn't learned then lost. I have completed Level 2 with my daughter and we are now in Level 3. I am using Level 1 for my son. Both children have very different learning styles, but this program can be tweaked for both. I like that it is non-consumable, too.
Anyway, I liked it so much, that I am officially an affiliate for the program . I hope I'm not overstepping any boundaries by posting this here (If I am, please feel free to delete this post).
So, if you go to the site via www.allaboutspelling.com/Bartz and place an order, I get a percentage commission (which I'd be more than willing to split with you if you let me know that you ordered there...that way we can both benefit). It's rare that I find a product that I like this much that I want to share it AND be a representative for it.
If you have any questions or whatnot regarding All About Spelling, I'd be happy to answer them.
Thanks and God bless,
Christine

Thanks for the recommendation- I just placed an order. I have been using Spell to Write and Read and we are all getting tired of it. I'm hoping All About Spelling will work better for my first grader, who struggles with phonics, reading and spelling much more than my 4th grader. It looks much more hands-on with the little tiles and easier to use.
Thanks!

We've been using All About Spelling this year too; my daughter loves it, and the sequential nature of the program is a good fit for her learning style.

I switched to All About Spelling from Spell to Write and Read, too (and Spell to Write and Read was after The Writing Road to Reading and CHC spellers) Spell to Write and Read was just way too involved for all of us! All About Spelling is the first spelling program that I feel like we can do, realistically, will learn from, and will stick with. I hope that it works out for you.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help! I will be happy to share how I've tweaked things to fit different learning styles. I'll be contacting you when I learn more about the commissions process so I can "share the wealth"
God bless,
Christine

We've tried so many programs and AAS is the only one that has been working for my dyslexic-ish 10yo who is (or WAS, lol) a horrible speller.
Because it is sort of teacher intensive, I've dropped it for my other children (the rest of our homeschooling is teacher intensive so *something* had to give) but I could really see it working for all my children if I chose to use it. Like Christine says, it's tweakable!

I am also using it on the recommendation of some one here. Its really going well.
My kids are 8 and 11 and we started in book 1. We are almost finished with that book and have learned quite a bit. Especially me.
