Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm jumping into homeschooling my 5th grader this year and I see that in the Mother of Divine Grace curriculum, the book Intermediate Language Lessons was started in 4th. Should I start at the beginning of the book or follow the MODG syllabus and start in the middle for 5th grade? Your thoughts appreciated from this total nervous newbie.

I would look over the early part of the book and see what your child knows already. You may find there is no need for review or that you only need to back up a few lessons.

We are starting the book this year with MODG 4th grade so I don't know the content myself yet.

Don't forget to be gentle on yourself!

Welcome to homeschooling! You can start with the 5th grade section of ILL and follow the syllabus. However, you might also do what Rachel suggested and peruse the 4th grade topics. You will find that following the syllabus will give you some days with only 5- 10 minutes of language work. On those days, you could do an extra lesson from the 4th grade. Or not. If your child has been in traditional school, ILL will seem easy, but rest assured that it's giving him the experience with language that is sufficient and eases you into homeschooling.
Enjoy!

I started out with MODG when we started with homeschooling 12 years ago. I love it and our fourth grader is using the fourth grade syllabus. This is our fourth go with it!

The language arts with MODG is lovely. It feels gentle yet it is solid!
Blessings,
